Running on solid terrain is also more stressful on your joints. I'll take a treadmill or stationary bike any day.
Go ahead and run on a treadmill. When you face someone who does the same amount of running as you, but outside you'll see the difference. Every boxing expert and pro fighter can't be wrong. Btw, try running 5 miles on the road one day then running 5 miles on the treadmill the next. I know myself and many other who can do almost twice as many miles on the treadmill than on the road. Yeah, sure you can get good conditioning on the treadmill but it still won't ever equal what you get out of road work. Do you box? Because if you did I would think that you'd know this. Any legitimate trainer would instill the importance of roadwork into their fighters.

I still do roadwork, but making it your only method of cardiovascular exercise is dumb. Especially with the day to day impact that running on terrain for distance does to joints.

I never said you shouldn't do roadwork, but you can still reach peak conditioning through other methods.

For example have you ever pushed a prowler?

And I never said it should be your only method of cardiovascular exercise, just that it is more beneficial than a treadmill. Of course there are several different ways to exercise, and certain ways are better than others.
