  • Protein Bars/Powder: Yes or No?

Would you recommend consuming one of those prior to doing weights or calisthenic work?

    I'm 17, 5'8, and 136 lbs.

No. Have protein after you work out, not before.

Most Protein bars imo are more of a "meal replacement" that consist of carbs, sugars, and protein. You could eat one of these for a pre workout for energy, if you wanted to.
I would recommend taking the protein powder after a workout for faster absorption.

Dont relay too much on supplements though, remember they are just there to complement your existing diet. Try to incorporate alot of whole grains, veggies, and lean cuts of meat in your diet and your good to go.

If you can only have it once then do it PostWO, but protein and carbs prior to lifting are good.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Currently I have a tuna sandwich (tuna spread out on two slices of whole wheat bread) prior to heading to the gym every day, so is that enough in terms of protein/carbs pre-workout?

I would assume so (this is a guess), 2 slices of bread and tuna should be good. Tuna is chock full of protein, and I would guess you get enough carbs from the bread. Sounds good.
