    Training/boxing during a headache

I was just wondering...is it dangerous to train and/or spar while you have a headache? Even if it's a light headache. Because every time it happens, I usually end up not going 90% of the time. Does anyone know?

    Never.

    Never.

    NEVER

    NEVER box with a headache.

    Work out, sure.

    Spar? Never.

If you're getting frequent headaches, for ANY reason, you should take up another sport.

In fact, frequent headaches will get you disqualified from USA Boxing; to get my passbook, my doctor had to sign off that I have no history of frequent headaches.

The reason for this is that "mild headaches" are commonly misdiagnosed. They could be caused by something as simple as needing glasses, but could also be something as serious as a tumor or an aneurysm, or as hair-trigger as a bulging disc or a pinched nerve in your neck. Without substantial investigation there is NO WAY for a doctor to know the difference. None.

Until your headaches go away, you're out of your mind to be boxing.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but until you get cleared by a doctor, keep your ass out of the ring.

Some Internet tough guys who know ****-all about health, physiology, or common sense will come on here in a moment and tell you to "work through the pain," but they're morons.

I dont have any information on it being dangerous but I avoid going to the gym when I have a head ache, I just dont feel right going in there when my head is in pain and I cant perform to the best of my ability.

        Thanks for the info fraidycat.

I don't get frequent headaches. I probably only get 1 headache every 2 months (an estimation, of course). I was just wondering if it was considered dangerous and if boxing during a headache could cause problems with the brain later on, or something like that. Thanks for the info though.

And yeah, like K Larsen said, I stay away from pretty much any physical activity when I get headaches. I like to be focused when I box, and having to worry about a headache would mess up my performance.

Nope, I never get headaches after sparring unless I take a major beating to the head. Which has only happened once before.

just feel like headaches, but in truth I think it just's part of the punches that tap your head. It does hurt a bit after sparring sessions.

It could also be a hydration issue. I know I should drink like 10 glasses of water a day, but I usually don't. And in my gym, when we spar, nobody gives us water in between rounds. After warming up and then sparring, I usually get a little headache on my way back home and it lasts until I go to sleep and wake up the next morning, then it's gone.

i'll tell you not to spar with a headache but i've done it lots of times.

it's more about sparring while still recovering from a concussion because if you get another one it can kill you.

                  it's called second impact syndrome/disorder.
