lifting heavy free weights is the most effective form of burning calories. it also produces a hormonal response, increasing testosterone levels - especially in the squat.
long duration cardio work is NOT the best way to burn fat, although if combined with strength training, it can be very helpful.
if you want to get into boxing, get into it.
if you want to lose fat, and get stronger - lift weights.

BTW I am 5'11 on my bare feet, 6' with my shoes.
BTW Heres a pic
It's weird, my arms are lean, my shoulders are but my chest as a bit of fat. I am just making comparison, but I notice big heavyweights like Tyson, Tua, Bowe, Foreman, they all go 280+ when they stop working out. For example Tyson went up to 280 in prison Foreman 315 during his lay off. Tua was just below 300 on his lay off and when Bowe came back (he shouldn't have) I assume he had to lose at least 20lbs to come in at 280. When Ali went away to Egypt after winning the title in 64 he came back at 245 lbs, he was 265lbs before Larry Holmes.
Obviously these examples are the well known creme of the crop, but what I am saying is the tendency is there in big men to gain weightBloody bantamweight/welterweights/middleweights always stay the same, us big men get a bit heavy when not working out :P

Week 1 Interval Training Program
* 5 Min Warm up
* 6 Sprint Intervals - 30 Seconds each
* 6 Rest Intervals - 90 Seconds each
* 5 Min Warm Down
* Do the routine 3 times in the week with a rest day in between each workout
Tips: As this is your first workout just test yourself out, instead of trying to hit 9's or 10's in intensity. There will be plenty of time for that.
NB: You are just trying to get your body used to the intervals, do not go all out, ease into the exercise.
I would be glad to offer opinions and suggestions where and when I can. Please feel to correct me if you think this is wrong for a beginner.

walk alot, like hours.
jog alittle too if you want but walk or ride bike at a relaxed pace alot.
you jog and you lose carbs and rely on a calorie deficit to lose fat where as when your doing anything that requires energy but dosnt get your heart rate up your burning the actual fat right off your body as an energy source.
this is also why boxers can gain weight and burn it off right away, because they have a massive foundation and alot of what they do dosnt really ramp up their heart rate so alot of what they do burns straight fat.
this also explains why alot of the older boxers that fought for 20+ rounds dont appear to be the most cut, because they stored some fat, not only for momentive punch purposes but as an energy source as well.
