the idea is that there is a spinning metal disc inside the ball that is allowed to rotate along a defined axis. This creates gyroscopic effect. The faster the disc spins (up to 15,000 rpm or 250Hz) the harder it is for you to control it.
Basically the disc spins and you grip the ball and try to hold on while it jerks around violently.
