  • Amateur boxing eye doctor examination

    Hello everybody,

So I have been training in boxing for 7 years in France but never had the chance to compete in the amateurs because the mandatory eye doctor examination strictly refuses someone with a certain degree of myopia or who had eye surgery. I couldn't pass before because myopia was too strong (I wore contacts), and I had Lasik since and even though my sight is great now I still can't pass.

Boxing is very important to me and I'm still relatively young so I'm really eager to be involved in competitive bouts, so I'm strongly considering moving abroad to do so. Unfortunately, it is quite hard to find conclusive information about whether someone like me can get an amateur license or no, I have contacted several federations but except UK (told me their doctor would pass me as fit if I have a written approval from my surgeon, which won't happen) they did not get back to me.

So I thought I would try asking here, for those involved in amateur boxing in recent years, what is the eye doctor examination like in your country ? Can you just show up and show you have good eye sight or is there a thorough examination like in France ?

Thanks for taking the time to read me and for any feedback, have a good day everyone

You are unable to pass the pre-fight medical I take it or the medical to get licensed?

I am unable to get licensed. On the license form in France that you have to get filled by an eye doctor, it is written in bold that myopia stronger than 3.5 diopters, or having had eye surgery strictly disqualifies you. So I am unable to have the eye doctor approval.
