For those that boxed without and with headgear is there a difference between getting punched with headgear and getting punched without it ?

It hurts less when it comes to physical pain, and headgear kinda absorbs the power of the punch so it lowers the head pain/wobbling to an extent, but punches still hurt.

Yes, there is a difference. Head gear actually compounds the blow, hence they stopped demanding that you use them in the amateurs.

Your brain will bounce around in your cranium bone more than with out headgear.

Headgear is but a false sense of security, excluding cuts.

Some say it helps against absorbing power shots, some say it doesn't. It certainly won't hurt as much when taking punches but can also be uncomfortable .

I think you get hit less without headgear cause you can see better . But as a white boy I would definitely get marked up a lot.

Marked up is no issue. Defense is key. Taking big shots is another issue.

Well when I was a young guy I didn’t always want to have bruises on my face it doesn’t attract the best type of girls .
I agree defence is the most important part of boxing but if you are trying to get better at boxing you should be getting in the ring with guys who are better than you and that does involve taking more shots than usual.
