I've talked to my friend who is a bodybuilder and idealy what you want to do is to get 2 days of rest in the week of not working out so your body can rest and start to build muscle.

Rest is key and a mind intense workout. Why dont i believe most of you guys 1000 pushups a day without rest? cut it out!
I'm not one of those posters that does 1000 pushups a day, because I don't. But pushups have always been a staple of my workouts and therefore it might seem like I do a lot compared to someone who barely does them, or is just starting to do them.

Even if you can do 1000 pushups a day, it really doesn't correlate to punch power. Punches come from the toes...not the chest. Now if you wanna get right up on someone and wing hooks, even here, the chest might play 15-20 percent of the 'punch pie' .... Foot placement/legs are easily 60% of your punch power, back/midsection 20%, upper body 20% ...all those pushups is only gonna make it harder for you to cover up and easier for your opponent to give you a Ricky Hatton coup-de-grace, and no, that doesn't mean 4 pints...
Ricky Hatton coup de grace- clinch, step out to the right or left and have a big looping body shot coming right up the middle, low, as you exit the clinch, ricky liked to step out to his right and then delve in that liver shot

Pushups are a bit of a ballache for me, I seem to progress really really slowly with them whereas with pullups I progress really fast, somedays I even seem to do worse with the pushups compared to the last time.

I don't do many push ups these days tbh.....In fact i dont do much strength work at all, just lots of fitness such as sprints, running etc and all my boxing stuff like sparring bagwork

I'm going to need to do more strength work in the future though, im only 15 now but all the top olympic guys do strength training so i'm going to need to do more, but where i'm at now i haven't been doing much at all and i've been going alright.

Push ups are good but worthless if you know that you can do other things. they really only play an importance when your a gym trainer and you have 20 people and you need to give them something to do for the next 10 mins.
but really if your not being forced into doing them by some lazy trainer, id reccomend pull ups, and shrugs to cover almost all the same muscles as push ups. I would also recommend some back bends for increased strength in your intercostals but its not really necessary.
