  • How to gain muscle w/o gaining fat???

    I have to stop boxing.

I am going to be a firefighter in a year and a half, and right now im 5'8 and 125lbs. I need to gain as much muscle as possible but i would like to do it w/o gaining fat. I have asked some people on a body building forum and they said for me to bulk up. meaning eat a lot of food 6x a day and get 1.5 grams of protein(per lb of bodyweight) daily, keep fat levels low, and keep carbs moderate.

But they tell me im going to gain some fat and not to worry about it and bulk for a year then cut for half a year. Cut is lifting weights 3x a week and cardio 5x or more a week

IS THERE ANY WAY TO GAIN ALOT MUSCLE W/O GAINING FAT???

green k for anyone w/ helpfull advice

Just eat more. And do solid weights. Burn off the fat by doing cardio. The more you workout and eat the better it will be you get bigger just balance the cardio with weights.

.5 lbs of muscle a week is up to 26lbs of muscle a year.

i was told a person could only gain 10-15lbs of muscle a year but most people will only gain 5-10 lbs a year.

That was just an average per week. The average can change with people in the study. Theoretically it may be possible but many people don't have the diet, dedication, routine to do it. I am not sure about the specifics :P.

apart from using steroids it is difficult. How old are you and how much weight training have you done? if you are young and havent done much training you can make some good gains to start with. The reason why some fat gain is inevitable is because you need to be in calorie surplus (eat more than you burn). If you monitor what you eat and make small adjustments you wont gain TOO much fat. If you go on a eat-everything-you-see bulking diet you will get fat too fast.

If you are serious about it, you need to work out how many calories and protein/carb/fats you eat each day. See my sig for more info. When you work out you Base Rate Metabolism (how much food you need to maintain weight) then add a few hundred cals to bulk, subtract a few hundred to bulk.
A good very effective basic weight training program to start is Rippetoe starting strength program.

Remember with weight training adequate rest between working out one particular muscle group is VERY important.
Monitor your weight in the morning and check to see if you are slowly gaining weight,if you are gaining more than 5 pounds a month you are probably gaining quite alot of fat also. The problem with eating too much is you will spend way too much time trying to lose all the fat when you cut, and you will potentially lose alot of muscle gain if you cut too fast.

So to build muscle without too much fat you need to CONSISTENT with you diet and weight training. You dont need to overdo the training, you can even get by by doing only 45mins - 1 hour three or 4 days a week - as long as you are slowly increasing your lifts and gaining weight you will make some progress.

you were about the same build as me when i jsut got out of high school in 2005. i was 5'7-5'8 and weighed 125. my second semester at college i took a weight training class with some friends and learned how to weight lift. we worked out 3 times a week for about an hour and didnt miss a single workout for the semeseter. i didnt change how much i ate which wasnt a lot because i never was a big eater to begin with. by the end of the semester i weight 140-145 with just about the same if not less body fat which was around 10-13%. even if you arent a big eater youll still but on some lean muscle because if your lifting your muscles will be forced to grow from lifting. as long as your not eating crappy foods you should be able to gain that 25lbs in a few months easy if you have a solid lifting routine, are lifting as much as you can in the right set rep zone, and you are also doing your cardio. yoru time frame is determine what your diet will look like.
