  • Title Foul Protector Review

Here is the foul protector I actually got for one of my students at the gym. He went with the lace tie one and not the velcro because it was $10 less. I was waiting to see his before I purchased mine because I was weary of the low price tag and was wondering how durable it would be.

That's the link so you can see it. The biggest difference between the lace tie and the velcro one is just the convenience of the velcro one. You can get in and out of it very quickly and don't need anyone to help you tie the back.

Both are the same quality, which was very good to my surprise. They hold up very well and are well made. The stitching around the straps are very good and the fit I find is a little big. I actually purchased the LARGE size and ended up returningit for the medium because it did run a little bigger than I thought.

The padding is good but not too much so it isn't bulky. The cup is made of a strong plastic underneath the leather skin on the outside. It protects well since I was hit low TWICE in the same round and I didn't feel it as much as I thought I would. It doesn't have the "Mexican" cut which runs a little higher on the stomach and kidney area, so if you are hit with a kidney shot, they are exposed.

For the price you can't beat it. I think it's on sale right now for under $40 and you could get something much more expensive but if you are using it just for gym sparring, it's a great buy.

    I give it 8 out of 10.

Do you think it's necessary to wear a full no-foul protector while sparring or do you think something like this would suffice?

Right now I just wear a regular cup in a compression short for amateur bouts, but I never wear protection during sparring which I've been thinking is really ******. I've been lucky not to get hit low.

I have a policy in the gym, if you are preparing for an acutal fight, protect yourself as much as possible. Meaning, wear a full face protector as headgear and wear a full foul protector as well.

I do this because there's nothing more frustrating than preparing for a fight and having your fighter needlessly injured or cut.

If you are just doing it for fun or to stay in shape, you can wear the partial protector and be fine.
