Bit of an old thread, but do protein diets actually work? If they did, would anyone have any recommendations?

by protein diet I understand you imply high protein diet where you take 1 gram of protein for every pound of bodyweight? If so, then yes, that diet works.

Hard work in the gym or how ever you work out. Eat healthy and good foods. Supplements are cool to experiment with and for a little help but don't rely on them. Remember that they didn't have all these supplements once upon a time and people still got to be in shape back in the days. It takes hard work and the right foods.

              Gains with protein

To build muscle mass your body requires certain BCAA(Branch Chain Amino Acids) also known as proteins. You don't need a weight gainer protein mix to put on muscle.

A weight gainer will put on overall weight because of the high amount of calories in the mix usually between 800 to 1200 calories per serving.

If you are training hard, lifting weights ect and want to develop lean muscle mass you want at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. So if you weight 160 pounds then you want 160 grams of protein per day. In this case you would want a Whey protein Supplement like what I take Dymatize Nutrition Elite Whey Protein. Its 24grams of protein per serving and only 110 calories. So you can still eat all of your regular meals and drink 3 of these a day and it will put you where you need to be or close. You can also double the scoop to make it 48grams and only 220 calories.

Cheaper protein blends have more sugar, more cholesterol, more lactose and a cheaper BCAA profile. Also the proteins are synthesized differently and usually have a lower absorption rate.

With any high protein diet you never want more than your body can handle at once. The human body is only capable of absorbing 60 to 70 grams of protein at one time. The rest is just discarded.

Also when taking protein the best way is with water not milk. With water your body will digest the protein quicker and its easier on your digestive system and your kidneys.

                or.....

you can just eat right, work hard and sleep well.

'eat like an animal, sleep like a baby, work like a beast, grow like a plant', something like that, right?
