You need to workout in combination with protein. I would guess you knew that though.

Whey - Fast Acting, Pre/Post Wo
Casein - Slow, night time/during the day

Optimum Nutrition, Gaspari, Dymatize, Scivation, etc to name a few.

You can increase your strength without increasing your protein from normal levels. If you want to pack on some muscle mass increase your calories to gain a pound or two a week, anymore weight gain than that will probably be fat (unless your new to weight training). Protein should be around .7-1gm per pound you weigh. Fat about 20% of your diet, fill the rest in with carbs.

To get to the protein powder, the reason for taking it is to help you obtain your protein level for the day, but if you eat enough egg whites, lean meat, tuna, chicken etc. you may not need it. It is more of a convenience thing. Faster acting as well after a work out. A basic whey concentrate is fine.

Dont buy into the marketing hype that you need to use buckets of the stuff or eat ridiculous amounts of protein to build muscle. Make sure you give your muscle groups enough rest between workouts or you wont grow.

And that it gives more control over the abosrbtion rate since you can get just whey or casein, etc.

Dude, you're 17. Your balls haven't even dropped yet.

Do you realize how hard it is to get a good amount of protein ( I would say 2g per pound of body weight) just through food ?

Optimum Nutrition makes a great and good tasting whey protein.

24g of protein per serving, with only 1 gram of carbs, and 1g of fat per serving.
