    Hooks to the head

I have 2 boxing trainers at my gym, one tells me to throw the hooks the to head with my thumb facing up while the other one tells me my thumb should be facing me... which one is correct?

Both ways work, personally i prefer throwing hooks with my thumbs facing up cause i feel i have more power like that.

Different trainers at my gym tell me different ways. I think one of them has it right when they say that 'whatever feels more comfortable to you is the way you should throw it.' Just make sure you got your elbows up when throwing upstairs and twisting your front foot.

for hooks to the head and tight hooks any where like in clinches i have my thumb facing me(palm facing the ground). For looping hooks and mid to close range hooks to the body i will have my thumb facing the ceiling(palm facing me)

i guess both are right just depending on where your hitting and how your throwing the hook.

My trainer said that a pro boxer should throw them whichever way feels most comfortable. An amateur should throw hooks to the head with the palm down becasue that reduces the chances of you being called for 'slapping'. If you throw a hook with the thumb up and you extend it too far or your opponent moves in slightly, you are going to hit your oponent with the palm of your glove, or atleast not with the white knuckle part.

That said, I'm an amateur and always throw my hooks to the head with the thumb facing up. I've never been called for slapping, and I feel I have a lot more power that way.

Thumbs up for me. My trainer always said to do what's natural.
