what exactly does it mean when a boxer hits a peak? how do you hit the peak at the correct time?

When preparing for a fight, when you hit the peak that means you reached top shape. Perfect mind and body. If you peak to early by the time the fight comes you may be out of it. What I mean by that is you may not feel like wanting to fight anymore. That hunger died and went away, or you can become discouraged because of continuous hard training(happened to me recently). Im not sure if you can peak too late. My understand is either you peak early, peak at the right time, or not at all.
Where not at all normally means your going to lose and peaking too early means that you may struggle in your fight, maybe even fade out later rounds.
