Personally and this is just me as a trainer, I think that if you are going to get into boxing either amateur or pro, you should get used to BOXING gloves.

Those thin gloves you get with the heavy bag are more for people that just want to hit the bag and get a workout. If you are training at a gym or wanting to box, I recommend 16oz gloves. It gets you used to wearing them, hitting the bag with them and the extra weight helps in your workouts and hand speed.

though the 16 oz gloves are good i like to do a round warm up with the thin gloves how ever many rounds with the 16 oz gloves and a warm down round with the thin ones where i just work on speed. not sure if it makes a diffrence but i feel like it does.

I just think those thin gloves are useless unless you are only hitting the bag for a workout. If you want to box might as well use boxing gloves.
