unless you can go toe to toe with the guy or your really good at side stepping countering and slipping your probably not going to win or really do anything impressive. I would just take the time to work on slipping side stepping and countering as well as toughening your body from the hits. maybe wait it out 2 rounds then go for toe to toe maybe he will have been worn down to your strength level. rope a dope style till hes tired.

First advice, don't listen to dynamite punch, trying to fight in a style thats not yours agaisnt guys you have problems with is the best way to eat leather like crazy.
As some other people said:
1-Don't back up in a straight line, use lateral movement.
2-Try to hold them away with your jab.
3-Make them miss and counter.

PS: I do have respect for the rushing style though. I have respect for any style that is effective. So I don't feel like I deserve to win either. The people I fight aren't just rushing in. They also have good upperbody movement usually and a good guard. So I wouldn't call their skill worse than mine. I'm just asking for advice to deal with that style, because it's obviously my weak point.
Thanks for the advice so far. I'll try to work on a more accurate jab and the sidestepping with punches like check hook, straights, uppercuts.
Keep the advice coming guys!

Hey hearnsz ill just ask you. The Rushers that you fought when they are rushing do they move they head always or do they move it only when they are slipping your punches? thanks.

like everyones been saying already. keep them of with lateral movement and the jab. or with counterpunches.
ive been in the same spot as u, struggling with these guys. if u cant catch them coming in, work on your speed, timing and accuracy. also work on keeping them of with your jab.
u really shouldnt allow ppl to bum rush u without making them pay. work on timing and accuracy. shadowbox imagening your oponent, pads and double end bag.
i just watched holyfield-bowe III. seen it? anyways thats what should happen if someone tries to run straight at u. if u cant make it happen, practise.

I can't develop every style and be better at it than the people who are specialized in it...
I've tried this but the problem is they just rush in too fast, while punching even. So if I attempt to counter from distance they still get close enough to hit me in the face as I leave myself open while countering.
Yea I noticed this, I've had times where they suddenly back off after getting hit by a hard jab. But they have quite good head movement so I don't frequently hit them with it. And if they slip it while coming in (which they often do), I can expect a hard right in my face or something.

Originally posted by verbz View Postthats y da chins gotta be tucked bro. beleive me a stiff hard jab will make them think twice about rushing in, once u hav got him thinkin twice thats half the battle won cause hes gonna be worrying about wot ur gonna do. thats wen u start dropping the rights....he tries to charge in u feint the jab drop a right for example. the main thing when fighting against this style from my experience is mental toughness, its very easy to get frustrated and start gettin disheartened when he starts rushin and landin. remember if he lands no big deal compose ur self reset and start again. hope this advice helps

If you can't tussle with them move around so they can't get their feet planted. Also practise how to punch and clinch or punch and rest your shoulder against their chest to prevent them getting full momentum on their punches.
It's good that you ask for advice as that's what sparring is for to figure out what's wrong. Gradually you'll get the hang of it regardless of what advise you recieve, you'll figure out what works best for you and gain more experience.
