yeah definetely, but my trainer says if you spar with the pros too soon it can break you rather than improve you. good quality sparring is the key, i would wait till you get to a decent standard and then spar them ( assuming you have only just started boxing).

well, im not him but i'd interprate it to mean that sparrin with people much better than you may break your confindence if they constantly beat you down

          what he said above

i suppose you could get knocked out or something and getting beat up too much or hit too hard at the start of your career probably ain't good for you and you will probably end up punchy lol.

Spar with the best you can find there is no way you will get worse if you spar with people better with you. Sparring with weaker opponents can build a false sense of confidence and you can learn bad habits. You wanna be punished for your mistakes if you dont want to make them in a real fight.

You might get knocked around a bit at first, but thats part of boxing. SOmetimes pros will do for example 2 rounds each with 5 different boxers for a total of 10 rounds, the sparring partners may be less experienced but the pro might more be looking at building endurance. This is a good opportunity and you are less likely to be knocked around as much as the pros are pacing themselves and you are fresh. So if you are serious about it I would look to the gyms where you can find high class boxers to learn from.

After making sure you have trained your basic boxing skills to the point of them being ingrained in your muscle memory, that is absolutely the most important thing. Sparring is where you truly develop your skills as a fighter. You can shadow box, skip and hit the bag until the cows come home and you are better than Mosley, but unless you spar with the guys that Mosley did you will never be as good.

Training is just training and the basics are just the basics, but, sparring is the real training for learning how to fight. It is where you either put into practice what you have done training, or it is where you just forget everything and swing about. Having good sparring partners teaches more than any bag, or shadow boxing routine could.

I assume the ass kicking you could take would possibly demotivate you as a fighter.

No good trainer would ever put you in with someone that far above you though, especially if you're reasonably new at it. They would generally not put anyone reasonably new in with full seasoned pros.

It's also very unlikely that any good trainer would allow such an ass kicking to occur. Sparring is sparring. It is where you learn new things and put into practice all that you have trained so madly in. Until you get more experienced you rarely have all out gym wars. Or at least you shouldn't until you've got a decent amount of experience behind you.
