  • Sparring conditioning different from regular conditioning?

I've been boxing for about 5 months now and I thought that by this time I would be in decent shape. Before I started 5 months ago I was very inactive for about 2-3 months to the point where I couldn't hit mitts for 2 rounds when I started boxing. I haven't been running much but I have been doing consistent cardiovascular exercise through boxing or running at least 3-4 times a week. I know to its nothing great but I can run about 3 miles currently in about 25-26 min. I thought I would be in shape enough to spar 3 rounds, but for some reason whenever I spar I cannot last. I get tired during the first round and the second and third are just pure hell. Getting hit in the body just accentuates it. So my question is, is sparring/fighting conditioning very different from having the conditioning to run? If I spar more (haven't sparred that much), will my sparring conditioning improve much more then just running?

im an ex amateur fighterm regional champ years ago. Let me tell you something about getting in shape for a fight. Running is a must to get in shape but running wont help if sparring doesnt go with it dude. You need to spar 2-3 times a week and every week u increase ur rounds and build stamina like that. U spar 3 rounds ur first week, doing that 2-3 days a week. then next week you start sparring 5 rounds. But keep in mind u must run 3-4 miles everyday 6 days a week, everyday get up and run 4 miles. Also go outside and do sprints, sprints are very important. so basically if u dont spar u wont get in shape, running dosnt get u in shape, sparring does, all running does is give you the gas to spar but it doesnt get you in shape. so basically ur schedule as an amateur should look like this
day 1 run 4 miles, sprint for 6-10 minutes, gym work- sparring
day 2 run 4 miles, sprint 6-10 minutes, gym work- sparring
now u do that 6 days a week u will get in shape.
also an amateur fight is 4 rounds, so u should be sparring 7-8 rounds without gettin gassed before ur rdy for a fight.
