  • Stinky boxing gloves?

How can I clean my boxing gloves and get rid of the stinky odor?

im not sure i never really had this problem. i always wash my hands before i put the gloves on and i have 2 pairs of wraps so they are constantly clean. If you really really cant buy new gloves then uhh... try using some non harsh disinfectant cleaner on a clean rag and clean as well as you can all on the inside but try not to use to much cleaner at any 1 time to cause it to build up inside. just enough to clean with. then use a different clean rag and wet it with water to get as much of the cleaner residue out. Make sure to have some sort of air drying so it drys fast. remember not to use a **** ton of cleaner or water at any 1 point. just enough to moisten and re moisten the rags. if that dont work then your **** outta luck and you need to buy some new gloves and keep your hands and wraps clean every time you use them.

Thanks, I use clean handwraps everytime I train but I tend sweat a lot and i guess my problem is that I don't let my gloves air out. I put them right away in my gym bag when I leave the gym.

leaving them in your bag might be it and maybe your wiping your sweat from your forehead onto your wraps. i try as much as possible to not use my wraps to wipe sweat from my head so they dont soak into my glove. the only sweat should be from your hands. the smell comes from oils from your body mixing with the sweat and maybe you wipe sweat onto your wraps and they end up in the glove along with all the sweat that is already in there and they marinate in your bag heh? i try to leave my gloves unwrapped and i let them sit out over night to dry them. you might have to switch back and forth between cleaner and water if the smell is that bad heh. good luck

My personal equipment doesn't smell, but the public gym equipment smells pretty bad. Make sure you air out your gloves real well after you're done using them. They probably smell because they don't dry well and bacteria starts to breed in there. I think all equipment will smell a little bit after a while just because they become saturated with sweat but if you keep them aired out as often as possible, it will keep them smelling better.

There is also an equipment spray you can use to neutralize the smell in the gloves:

Titleboxing and Ringside sell it also, check their catalogs.

Or try glove dogs - you stuff them in your gloves after working out - they absorb the sweat and deodorize the gloves:

          Hope that helps!

buy some cedar chips from Home Depot or a local hardware store and stuff them in an old washed pair of socks you don't use anymore. It is basically the same things as the glove dogs.

                Thanks everyone for your advice.

I last went to the gym on Thursday evening and I took my gloves out from my gym bag and they aren't fully dried up yet and it's Monday.

Boxing gloves can be tough to dry because they're not completely open, a lot of parts and not well exposed to air. I recommend getting the glove dogs then or making your own (w/ the socks like the other guy said). The cedar chips will absorb a lot of the moisture and leave a pleasant scent in the glove.

What about when you get home? That's like leaving your wraps in the bag or training shoes. Of course it will stink. My gloves never smell and I stick the wraps in the wash every week. I've seen some guy with smelly gloves like you using deodorant and another guy using Scholl shoe fresh spray. I think it only happens to cheap gloves with crap lining
