  • Constant headaches...... please help

Before everyone gives me answers like "see a doctor", I can't get an appointment till monday, so I thought I would ask you guys.

Since sparring on thursday I have had really bad headaches, straight after training to when I woke up, all through yesterday and today. I got hit more than usual and also on the back of the head and neck two or three times (unintentionally). It stopped me training today and yesterday and I'm getting worried cos it isn't improving, and I have a fight next saturday.

Any help as to what might be the problem or how to solve it would be much appreciated

    Thanks.

Perhaps it's a migraine that **** can last for awhile, very painful too.

Do you think the sparring caused it then?

Numerous things could have caused it, I doubt sparring alone would cause it.

            Might not be drinking enough.

I had the same problem this weekend, a terrible migraine after sparring. I took a few ibuprofen and drank a lot of water. Judging by the fact that I hadn't eaten anything all day leading up to the practice, I'm not surprised my head started hurting so much. Make sure you're getting a lot of fluids. Pedialite, Gatorade, and water.

More than likely its a tense neck (from getting hit there) or upper back muscle, I've had this before. The pain can be felt around the head but its rarely something internal (like the brain).

The tightness increases in your neck muscles which in turn pulls the muscles around the head. I'll bet you feel the pain more around the temples or low down on the forehead?

Massage good rehydration reduce what you seem to be describing.

Oh and stress and worry compounds it (tension headaches), so try not to give it too much thought.

It could be high blood pressure or you may be dehydrated. If you aren't eating enough that could be another reason.

Or MAYBE its a concussion. It's BOXING and for whatever reason everyone here is giving out all possible explanations except a concussion. Headaches are symptoms of concussions and given that the OP felt the headaches right after getting hit more than usual in sparring why would everyone leave out the most plausible reason? I've been dizzy for a couple days after sparring but never a long term headache which could be worse as in internal bleeding in your head. If it lasts much longer I suggest you get an MRI (or is it cat scan) if you have health insurance.

And I HIGHLY suggest that you not fight that soon after a potential brain injury. If you get caught clean while you possibly have internal bleeding or just a mild concussion, you might suddenly have a serious brain injury after the fight. You shouldn't even spar for few weeks if not for a whole month. I don't know if you are a pro or amateur but either way I highly doubt your fighting for a huge payday or trophy so I would recommend protecting your body/brain than a meager fight.
