  • Fighting stance/style (barrera-marquez)POLL

Which do u think is better is it marquez or that of barrera's?

For me i think jabs and defense are better with barrera style but its hard to counter. With marquez style it leaves the defense wide open all your option is just to backoff or parry it hard when your enemy has faster hands or if u get cornered u gotta take hits but what is good with marquez style is that u get also to deliver great counters to the enemy which i was not able to do when fighting in a barrera stance. lols but im not sure yet which is better im just an amatuer experimenting styles i don't have my own style yet.

It's good that you put those 2 guys cause i think Barrera is the best classical boxer/puncher who executes textbooks techniques, with a great mastering of the pure bases of the sport. Marquez's timing is a great example too.
I think everybody who starts boxing should watch some Barrera fights. Marquez 's style needs more time of practice cause he has great timing. This timing need to be learnt in the gym. You need a couple of months to get something solid.

I think you should, first of all, work on the bases with Barrera as a blueprint. Then you can learn other things.

yeah, but with an aggresive figther who is faster than me i can't counter them using barrera mode, i got to switch to marquez style... which is turning a bit side ways and it makes it easier to slips some counter upper cuts and hooks.. and its hard when on barrera square up stance. Anyway in start of the fight my natural stance is somewhat like that of barrera maybe because we have similar body type but sometimes in middle rounds when i get tired and pressured it switches to a marquez style on itself instinctively.
I have no problem with sparring anyone in the gym except this one guy who is faster than me, i wanted to overcome him or at least make it look like he is not outclassing me.

To counter the lil fast ****er's speed, smother him, use good offensive footworks, cut of the ring like Ricky Hatton does. And once you put him in a corner hit him hard on the body.
Body shots are very useful if your opponent is faster, if you go to the head too early, ya ain't gonna touch him.
In the gym there was a guy slower than me, he made great adjustments ( we sparred 3 rounds) and won the last round like i advice you to do. He fought in pro and explained that to me, you shouldn't fight someone's in his strength.

yeah but he has good offense too im the one ending backing up because he is a lot stronger than me and my problem is my eyes it just keep on closing when flurries come in i tried hard to keep it open but i can't control it the ****er just keep closing and its a problem when im getting conerned i can't throw a precise counter. Anyway i have been only boxing 6months total on and off since 2007 i have 7 amatuer games.
