  • Hand issue [bewarned VERY long post]

Hi all, as you all can see i'm quite new here. Tho i have a question i hoped maybe some of you were able to help me with.
I'm a bit of a scrap case which wants to seriously start boxing to get his body back on track.

    [problems beforehand]
Last year i nearly broke my wrist (tried to catch my gf who fell.. and my wrist landed between a door hinge, didn't break but probably that would've been better for me.)

i couldn't use my hand for nearly 6 months (doc only told me to rest it.. 1 of the things i can't do at all...) 3 months later it finally returned to a usable shape, with lots of cracking and snapping..

overused my elbow, which i'm still getting back in shape now (the locking mechanisme isn't going to smooth, but with the right movement i can still pull of punches)
which made me neglect my right arm all together.

and last that i'm hypermobile, which means my joints aren't really all that great at keeping themselves together. (problems with my joints tend to take really long to heal back up, still going strong with 2 years now with my ancles and knees).

    [the case]
if you've read this far, thanks for sticking it through.

now to try and keep my hand into shape since i wasn't able to work or do anything behind my computer, i started playing bass (mostly using my index and middle finger). Now i got my ear blasted.. which blows.. so i can't do that anymore either. (but that aside)

Because of all the time i played like that, my index finger and middle finger of my right hand are still ok and usable, tho my pink and ring finger are really underdeveloped..
Now i bought a couple of boxing gloves and while practicing a bit.. i managed to hit something i shouldn't have (wall) and bruised those 2 fingers in my hand. Now the knuckles are already really tiny from the year of neglect and the bruising really doesn't help but their " out of place " and really weak, just the slightest touch feels uncomfortable and feels like i'm going to push them out of my hand.

Now i hoped if any of you (knowing my background, to be a bit more specific) know any type of training, exercise or whatnot, to get them back into shape and usable like when they were had as stone and i could punch with all my power.

i hope i managed to give you guys an accurate enough description so i won't damage my hand any further, and i hope you guys can help me on my way to get better again.

yeah it took so long cause they didn't put a (don't remember the english word, the hard white stuff) on it.

because according to the x-ray photo's nothing was broken nor out of order, according to them it was just extremely bruised.

Cast? Damn that sucks. I quit boxing because of hand issues. And laziness I guess. But mainly hand issues. Which I still suffer from.

if you were to exercise more your joints would heal faster.

when you punch with your pointer and middle fingers they are strong. the lower 3 fingers are not but if you so choose to punch with them you will need to make sure you make contact with your ring knuckel then middle then finally pinky. Never pinky first or ring then pinky. this is hard and i would recommend using you pointer and middle finger to punch but try hitting with your lower fingers every once and a while till you get the hang of it.

unless you have no problem doing all you bag work bare knuckle then i wouldnt punch walls. building up your knuckles takes time and constant punching just keep using the bag and if you do try to punch walls 10 light taps would be so much more benifical then 1 slam that shatters your fist.....

your knuckles are bruised its going to take a week or 2 for them to heal. dont use the bruised knuckles till like 2 or 3 days after they feel 100%

It's been a maybe a month already since it happend, so the bruise should be gone by now ( at least from experience i know.. it can take longer )

as for the second way of hitting you described, i can't even do that. since my ring finger can't make any contact (against a hard object) since it's so tiny now.
It just looks like i have 6 knuckles, for you can hardly see the bruised ones.

and yes i've been doing the tapping thing since i want them to get harder, tho even the slightest tap against the 2 lower knuckles (right hand only) hurts .

if you cant punch like that then dont just keep using the top 2 fingers and try the other way like 5-10 times a day theres a lot more to it then just what fingers to use especially when hitting walls.

Im sure if you take 35 mins a week( like 5 min a day) and hit the bag around with gloves, atleast, in a month you will be able to hit the bag alot harder with out much knuckle problem.

if you roll your wrist or hurt your knucles again make sure you let them heal but you can still use your other hand to punch the bag.

Amongst people that take marial arts and have to deal with conditioning like shins fore arms an knuckles the ones that take the least amount of time to recover and improve are the ones that are in the best overall shape
