If you just want to be an amateur "points" boxer, where you just flick your jab out and hit your opponent to score points, then sure just use your arm.

But as for what this guy said, thats one way to do it....
However Jack Dempsey, who was a hell of a puncher, believed in something called a falling step, you dont push off your back foot as it means shifting your weight to your back foot before pushing off in a forward direction.
And as we all know this is bad in boxing as ever millisecond counts and this could become a "tell" for your opponent who then may be able to see every time your going to throw a jab.

Your best off looking at Jack Dempseys book - Championship Fighting, there are ebooks online.

thats not jack dempsey thats my great grandfather who was a pro boxer.. iff every milisecond counts why pivot on a jab?? how u gonna throw a double jab or triple jab when you're pivoting your foot..

u pivot your foot to get power.. a jab is not a ****ing power punch .. its to set things up pivoting is wrong

I have feeling that if someone showed you how to pivot on a jab, you would feel like an idiot for not knowing what the hell you are talking about.

there's not a specific way to jab every opponent and every strategy. Both are correct depending on what your trying to do.

A jab is a jab theres no ultra jabs or super dooper jabs there are just jabs and you dont piviot when you do it. if you do your punching not jabbing....... there is a million and half ways you can punch with your left hand but there is only one way to jab.

um....jack dempsey when dose he refer to his falling left jolt as a jab? when dose he call it a jab? weight off back foot? all your weight should be on your front and you should be pushing your self forward with your back foot. no shifting or anything just you falling forward and your foot pushing you so you dont fall on your face.

wait were you talking about how jack was calling jabs weak little punches where you just flick your fist in to set your self up for a better combination? and how real punchers dont need to set them selfs up and how he wanted to make sure there was no confusion between this and his falling step punch so he reffered to it as a falling left jolt?

both a poer jab and a flicking jab have they're place. throwing nothing but flicking jabs while rearing back with aright is NOT a good idea.
throwing big powerful jabs alone my tire you out and you will probably miss more.

Yes. Pivoting on your jab as you are talking about is fine.

There is not much difference in motion between a short left hook inside a right hand, and a good stiff jab.

Ive never bought into the step with your jab crap. Stepping with your jab is good for closing distance, but if you only know how to throw a powerful jab while stepping, you will be completely unable to fight while going backwards.

It really is important to be able to jab with your feet planted, and thats what pivoting on the jab is good for.
                      Yes and no...

I am a trainer and have been for a long time. "Pivoting" on your jab is something that you should teach later on down the line with a boxer. It's a more advanced technique and should only be taught to someone who has the basics down.

Second, the "step" with the jab is ESSENTIAL in boxing. Not to say you can't jab WITHOUT stepping but what stepping does is prevent fighters from "reaching" with their jabs which is a big NO NO.

A jab should be short, crisp, with the chin tucked in behind it and if you need distance or a little power, stepping is a basic technique to achieve that.

As far as turning in with the jab, it's not necessary if you have good fundamentals and can throw the jab moving or not moving.
