  • Lung Capacity?

What happens if you keep pushing yourself past the point of gasping for air? Can you die?

i know this is slightly off topic but related. Most people believe that having a greater lung capcity is better, to a certain extent its true but what really matters is the ability of the body to transfer the oxygen into the muscles.

agreed. you dont really gain higher lung capacity when you do cardio or working out in high altitude or doing forms of hypoxia training. Your increase your bodies ability to transport oxygen when it needs it. thats why when your out of shape and try to run a mile you want to die but at peak fitness you can run 5 miles with only breathing through your nose and you still feel great. if you were able to push yourself way beyond how much oxygen you needed and how much could be supplied by breathing through the nose and mouth then you could really hurt your body doing that. your body is starving for oxygen including your brain but if you would push yourself that far then you must not have much up there to begin with.

Ok? That was a simple insult from a simple man I'm sure. The point is what if you can't breath in a fight? What are you supposed to do?

lol you never said anything about being in a fight. if you were in a fight and you were at that point you probably would have been knocked out already. i dont care how hardcore someone says they are or whatever ego manly bs they and ranting about. if you deprive your body of oxygen to that extent your brain will start to suffer and youll pass out or get knocked out before that happens. your cardio and conditioning should match or surpass what kind of pace you plan to fight at including what pace your opponent may set. i wouldnt step into that ring unless i new my cardio/conditioning could handle me fighting intelligently at full speed for however many rounds. but... in the event that you gas yourself out i would get on the defensive and try to keep my mind clear. get into a clinch and avoid damage until the round ends or until you get rested enough. thinking or experiencing that should motivate you to push your cardio condition a lot harder to not experience that.

yeah, like said, u would pass out first.

and oxygeb to usable energy coversion is great to work n - if u know how. this can be tricky actually. there is a science to it - breathing exercises have been around for thousands of years - litterally.

also, deeper, diaphramic breathing helps you in more ways than anyone can name. and stretching the lungs is not a bad idea either. mine have been stretched to where there has to be 2 xrays to cover my lungs, not just one anymore. and i am not taller than 6 feet.
