  • dont kill the bag

For those who are experienced fighters/boxers, during heavy bag practice.......what % of power do you use to hit the bag throughout or does this vary from practice to practice or even within one session?

Say if you go 6 -3 minute rounds of actual heavy bag practice........what are you trying to accomplish, what are you concentrating on?

As a usual amateur idiot, I learned the hard way about killing the bag and had a wrist injury........after learning to properly wrap my hands with wraps and tape, this doesnt happen anymore. Ihave really progressed in power and somewhat of a style

I still have an issue trying to sometimes go after the bag too hard.......Just curious what intensity to use for best results even though I am not a fighter...I would like to practice properly.

Also, how important is running or roadwork to endurance in the ring and sustaining during sparring and bag training?

I know these are amateur questions but I love my new found sport......and want to be better just for my own benefits and satisfaction..and health...I figured asking the experienced guys would be the best short of getting a trainer which I do not want to do as I am not that serious but I really enjoy it.

    Thanks.

Every punch with full speed and power. That's all I'm interested in.

It's not gonna hit you back. As long as your technique is right I think it's good to kill the bag. Speed, power and endurance will all be improved.

Kill, Kill, Kill...i just get on the bag and do my thing. i don't worry about no clock, my hands, wrists. knuckles, or anything like that. I just like to hit things and hurt people.

I concentrate on: my balance, timing, range, head movement, distance, technique, movement, guards, defense, speed, power, combo sets, body punches, digging, light punches, multiple punches, clinches, jab, right hand, hooks, bolos, body shots, circling, breathing.

Sometimes i go 87.4%; at other times i go 79.7%. When i work with speed i go about 88.6% and 75.8% with power. Sparring? I go between 78.7%-80% when i'm punching a person.

If you lack speed or power I can see why your doing it not worried about that, however I do worry about my right wrist which I broke a while back, but even before that I wasn't killing the bag, hit it with a hard body punch here and there but thats about it.
