im wondering how strong they are and weather or not i could reasonably compete. How much should i be lifting? Whats a good bench, squat, and mile run for some one in the 140 weight class? Right now im 5'8" 135lbs and 18yo but i would like to fight in the 140 class

What weight class have you fought at before? There is not a 140lb division in the amateurs but there is a 141lb division. There is no particular training regimen you should follow depending on your weight class. A fighter at 132 is not going to have to run any different than a fighter at 140. Fighters at 140 can be pretty strong and fast it all depends on the fighters physique. You can compete their but you might fight some one who has 5lbs on you if you come in at 135 and they come in at 140 so that might or might not give them the edge. As for lifting, just dont lift as a body builder and you will be fine. Moderate lifting to strengthen your muscles and keep you cut does the job.Last edited by K Larsen; 05-20-2009, 05:31 PM.

If you really want to move to 140. Then just pack on some muscle, perferably around the back and abdomen. 140 division has alot of body punchers(LWs are head hunters), might want to make your abs thicker. That way you can be a natural 140 and move around comfortably.
Otherwise listen to Larsen. He seems to have a the right idea.

sounds like u got the wrong idea about boxing.. boxing isnt about lifting wieghts and getting ****ed diesel and and power lifting squats.. this isnt football... if you are 135 u should fight at 132 or maybe even try cutting down to 125.. running up hills , and sprints are good.. a good mile run is 6-7 minutes but ur gonna want to run about 3 at a time.. if u can get it under 6 minutes even better..
if you are gonna use the bench press put about 85-100 pounds on the bar and do high reps .. same with the squats
