First off, don't go over 8lb.

Punching w/dumbells is excellent for you for strength and speed- if you time yourself and if you do a couple rounds of shadowboxing right after (someone already mentioned this). I find my hands are much faster after the dumbbell training.

Another great way to use the dumbells is to use them in your hands in guard for 2-3 minute rounds and just work on your footwork while keeping your guard up. Make sure to parry and slip punches, use your arms and bend at the waist to practice blocking body shots. Also, lift your hands to block shots to your ears and side of head. I'm telling you that once you spar, you will have a much easier time keeping your guard up and elbows in if you add that to your training regimen.

the powerball is great, but its hard to keep things balanced between left and right hand, also you need to look into how you perform with it, like what muscle groups, you dont want to over or under train certain muscle groups.

if you wanna punch faster, then punch as fast as you can and flurry often, that's it

These powerball things look ridiculous, i fail to see how making a masturbating motion with your hand will improve your power :S
Dont slate me for what i said, if anyone has actually used this and has seen benefits that would be worth paying for one then let me know what you did with it..

powerball takes away your technique, just use light dumbells or weight gloves, make sure you finish shadowboxing fullspeed

Power ball is good for weak wrists and forearms if you want to make them stronger.

I got mine at eastern mountain sports

its good because no matter how sore your wrists are you can still use the powerball.

yes you can do a wanking motion you can also do a curl motion wrist roll motion. you can hold it between 2 fingers 3 fingers you can use just your finger tips you can roll it forwards and instantly go backwards there is alot of variation depending on what muscles you want to isolate and how you hold it

if you dont consider stronger forearms more power then it dosent give more power its a good tool though for stronger forearms and for recovery from rolling your wrist on the bag or just sore wrists that you can use while you have sore wrists

i keep mine in the car gives me something to do other then smoke cigs

if you get a power ball dont use it to shadow box with just use it for your wrists as something fun or if your wrists are sore or if you just want to beef up your fore arms

Yes even Don Familton says using dumbells while shadow punching helps improve speed as he has seen in some cases but not all.

That vid made me not want to buy one.
