my second fight i was in the EXACT same position. i killed myself and got to 141. the only guy they could match me up with was a kid with 7 fights who came in at 152. my trainer told me i should take the fight because he knew it would be a good experience. i lost a decision. a bunch of people told me i got robbed. it was close. i thought i won. no doubt in my mind that fight gave me more confidence and made me a better fighter. a few fights later i beat him in a rematch.

i don't know why you would ever quit. it's hard for anyone here to judge since we weren't there, but i do agree with everyone else in this thread. i'd rather finish a fight on my back than on my stool. just sayin'...

it also depends how good you are, usually a good fighter can overcome a weight difference (to an extent)
Yeah you can overcome it but in the amatures your still developing your skills and should stick to fighting in your natural weight class unless your Manny Pacquiao of course

My trainer will have me fight heavyweaights sometimes. im (145 right now). I will get in the ring with em and sometimes i do not do so well. The way i see it if i can take a punch from a heavyweight ill do fine in my own weight class and i only consider it a real loss if I walk out of the ring the same fighter that is to say I only get down on myself if i get my ass handed to me and i couldn't learn anything from it. But its good to mix it up fight with guys bigger and smaller when you fight someone your own weight you will be accostomed to taking harder hits and slipping guys that are faster.

I'm alright doing that during sparring but no way I'm risking losing a fight and/or getting knocked out in front of everybody.

sparring a heavyweight at 140 is not necessary and a little excessive

boxing is about taking risks, losing fights doesnt matter unless you lose like 5 in a row against **** guys, records dont matter in the amateurs

it's better to spar with heavier guys, it makes it harder, you get tougher and have to work harder to do well

                i weigh 50kgs (112lbs) currently, i do a lot of sparring with a guy who weighs 69kg (152 lbs)

dont worry about records in am
just get as many fights as you can
thats what i get told, ofcourse your not going to go out of your way to get a miss match. but if you need to give away some experience or weight its only gonna benefit you in the long run win or lose
