  • Training tips, anyone?

Im kind of new to the amateur boxing scene. I was wondering if someone could give me a few pointers on my workout. I do 3min rounds with 1min breaks. I do 8 rounds of jumprope, then i will do weighted sit-ups, pull-ups/pull-downs and 8 rounds on the heavy bag. My diet is clean i started at 187lbs 6 months ago and now im down to 144lbs (im 5ft 10), is that good weight for height?
Also i train every single day i will let sore muscles recover for a day when they are really sore but i hit the bag and do the jumprope everyday, is that a bad thing or do i need to take a day off?

i got hit square in the chin last night at the gym. My jaw is doing that thing where it huts a little to close all the way. Should i be okay to spar tonight? Or should i wait until my jaw is 100%. It's not a horrible pain as in i do not think its anything serious but i do not want it to become serious. You guys have any exp with this?

There's plenty of injuries you can train through but (in my opinion anyways) don't mess around with jaw problems. Give it a day or two to heal atleast. You don't want to rush back to sparring (especially when you're new) and end up with your jaw wired shut for six weeks. There's plenty to do for a couple days that doesn't involve getting punched in the face.

144 is a good weight for that height, provided you're inshape. I'm 5'10 and fight in tournaments at 152 and around 160 for clubshows and my coach told me I'm a little bit below average hight for that weight. I've never had any problems, I've been shorter than some opponents and taller than others. You're fine at that size, and should be able to lose three pounds easy to fight at 141 for tournaments.

You must have been training hard to lose all that weight, keep it up!

When your sparring make sure you dont have your mouth open, bite down on your mouthpiece and breath through your nose

Thanks alot. Do you know how i could go about losing the fat and gaining muscle but staying the same weight? I do not know what my body fat % is, but to give you an idea all the veins on my arms and legs are visable while im at rest, the love handles are gone but no 6 pack.

Well, you've already lost a lot of weight, so obviously you know how to lose fat. Clean diet, and exercise. Keep it up and more will come off.

I'm not the guy to ask about gaining muscle. I hit hard and have never been overpowered in the ring, but I'm really skinny. I don't lift any weights or anything like.

thanks again. I was lookin around the forum the issue on weight lifting seems divided. I'll keep at it and focus harder on technique when im hittin the bag.

Just listen to your body if you feel like **** or your muscles arent cooperating with you just take a day off... other then that just focus on mastering the fundamentals if you havent already

try and fit some shadowboxing into your routine mate, it helps balance, speed, footwork and movement and the repitition of movements will make you faster. Try and fit a few rounds in if you can, if your stuck for time maybe do it instead of bagwork, bagwork is used for generating power where as shadowboxing is all about improving your technique, so technique should be your priority over power. Hope this helps

                    /

i did, the exact same thing to my jaw just the other day,

right hook came wide and over the top and hit my bottom jaw to the right and my top jaw moved along with my head to the left, i knew instantly id been coaught in the jaw but i felt ok, i carrie don sparring and a few seconds later i could feel it in my jaw at the back teeth on the right and i cudnt clentch my theeth together, it quickly got better that night and i cud clench my teeth with only a little pain and now two days on id say i feel very little but its still their and still feels arkward and in pain with certain jaw movemnt, im ment to be having a bout in 3 days time but i shud be ok,

p.s i put ice on the side of my jaw, it helped, you could try that, bag of frozen peas or somting
