The Best Resistance exercises i would recommend are dead lifts or clean and jerks. It will work out your whole body especially your core area. You ll notice a big difference with power and explosiveness. Any exercise can only help, its better than doing nothing...But the key is how you do the exercise and apply it to the ring.
I believe explosiveness is the key when applying weight training to boxing. Try to use a moderate weight something that will get you somewhat tired within 15-20 reps. Do NOT move slow as other "bodybuilders" who are going for technique and form. You a "boxer" your goal is to "explode" as fast as you can without sacrificing your form.
Also using ankle/wrist weights while you shadow box or jog would also be beneficial.
