  • Hvy Weight's Sparring

Hi, i no this post is gonna sound a bit ****** however in my case i hav a bit of a dilema, before i continue i just want 2 point out that im not talking my self up, im being genuine in wat im saying. Ok i find when sparring i hit alot harder than all the people i come across so i find i hav 2 take easy on my sparring partners but it makes me look bad when they try and walk me down and when ever i turn the power up a bit im wobbling them wit no effort, im trying not 2 b a show off and ko all these guys. So my question is 2 all the other hvy's out there how much intestiny r u giving when ur sparring(a % would b nice) and is it ok if u ko guy's when sparring. don't get me wrong if these guy were ****heads i wouldn't care.
    Thanks.

i fight at 141 and 152, but i'll say this:

i used to spar a dude who probably could have made 132 if he wanted to cut. nicest dude you'd ever meet outside the ring. anyway, this kid had DYNAMITE in his hands. pro or amateur, regardless of weight, i've never come across anyone else who hit that hard in my life. the kid always went for it, never held back, and always swung HARD. a lot of people on here ***** about kids who go hard like that in sparring, but honestly, that's just how the kid fights. that's how he's comfortable in the ring. that's his style, that's what he's best at.

you can't get mad at someone who is naturally heavy handed and naturally aggressive. and YOU can't hold back in the ring. you have to be yourself in there. if people don't want to spar you because you hit like a beast, that's their loss.

worry about yourself first, and your sparring partners second.

          Ok Jabman

By sounds of it your all about power which is okay but don't KO your sparring partners like it seems some people in here are hinting at, thats Bitin the hand that feeds you son, they're there to help you work on certain things, not to be used as punching bags.

Infact its your job to bring them along, doing this benefits you as it improves your quality of sparring

Take that power away like you been doing and focus on something else for a bit.

Your working on a Plan B incase your power fails you.

          Combinations
Defence (Limit yourself to only left hand ( jab ) 1 round, ect)
Movement ( maneuvering people into corners and such )

Ali looked bad in sparring cause he was working on his weakest points

          Do the same

          Make you more complete

When it comes to sparring, I'm pretty picky on who I work with.
I try to work with people I can gain something from.
If I'm sparring someone that's new, i just try to keep them busy & make them work.
I've had an unbelievable number of bad experiences with guys taking cheap/illegal shots as well as injuries.

With my heavyweight partners, we **** a bit, especially if it's boxing sparring, because at least all the tools are padded. Muay Thai sparring's a little different, because a full power knee to the ribs can break them relatively easy - like I found out 2 weeks ago.

I've said before I'm not a huge fan of hard sparring. I think what I mean is that I don't like overly aggressive sparring. I don't like it when guys just slug away; especially on someone they obviously outclass. Going for the KO is rarely justified; but I'm not beyond putting some steam on the shots, especially if both parties agree.

Slugging it out with little guys who are faster than me is also not too fun. I get yelled at if I sit on any of my punches, meanwhile the other guy's trying to take my head as a trophy. If I'm allowed to fire back, not a big deal, but I have better things to do with my brain cells than be someone's punching bag.

Ultimately, sparring's the most fun when it's with people of comparable skill levels. Pros shouldn't take their frustrations out on noobs. People should always respect the health of their partner.

If you're knocking folks out real easy in sparring, I'd look at your gloves first.
Are they the ones you're using on the bags?
Can you feel your knuckles through the padding?
How long have you had them?
Some of those safety gloves take so much power off the punches, that it can really make a huge difference.

mister amazing thanks 4 ur input im just going tell u a about myself, im a pretty technical style of boxer even though ive only got a little experience i no alot more than ur average slugger. all those things u said i do work on them but at the end of the day think my ego gets the better of me when these r going 4 big swings , ive sparred these guys and beat wit my jab no prob but then they get imbaressed and come hard. But i dnt want 2 ko any1 unless i feel that there capable of ko'n me and there trying 2.

pork chop thanks 4 ur input, my gloves twins 16oz 1yr old, as 4 agression i take none in 2 sparring because i can seriously hurt some1 and i dnt need 2 be look'n 4 da ko it will just come wit something simple as a 1,2. From reading every1's post ive come 2 da conclusion 1.it depends on ur own ability 2.it depends on ur partner eg-boxa or thug 3.if u wobble them, just bak off. so pretty much im just gonna box hard and not go 4 ko's and slug it out but if c there dizzy or wobbled ill bak off.

im also a heavyweight at my gym theres not alot of heavyweights and mostly the heavyweights that are at my gym have around 1 or 2 years experience so the coach dont put me up against them since ive only been going for about 3 months or so! but i have sparred a Light Heavyweight and a Middleweight before and i did what mister amazing said to do work on combos, limit myself to using only the jab and trying to corner them but i have to learn to bob and weave since i have got hit with there jabs alot and it hurt i can just imagin how a heavyweight jab or hook feels!
