I do that naturally cause most of the guys i train with are taller than me, and that works. It's very effective. If there is enough snap behind the jab, your opponent lost a second of breath and you can finish with a left hook plus a right up. I tried it and that worked a couple of time.

Floyd does this constantly...
But you have to be quick with it.. and not get timed.. or else your walking into a short straigh right hand on your nose.

It's a good punch. An effective counter/point scorer against a guy with a longer jab, and also a lovely set up punch for the over hand right.

In fact, I don't even try to block it, I let that **** land, or step back or step to the side a little bit. If a jab to the body is hurting you then maybe you should consider another sport, seriously.
A jab to the body is usually a set up for something up top, that's why when someone jabs to my body, I'm looking at two things, he's either gonna follow it up w/ another jab up top or an overhand/or straight punch, or turn that jab into a lead hook.
So a good rule of thumb is, always look for that second shot, that's why coaches always tell you to keep your eyes open!
