  • do i have a weak chin?

I was sparring yesterday and got caught with a straight right to the temple, felt my legs weaken and a bit dizzy for a few seconds, but kept my composure. This is the first time instances of such has happened, is this a sign of glass jaw?

Depends how hard the shot was.......................

Why are there so many topics about this stuff lately?

ah the tough guy has a glass huh?
      lol

No but in all in seriousness you must not be doin it long.
Your not gonna know if you have a glass jaw or you can talk a punch until you've done alot of sparring,
if you constantly feel weak and hurt when gettin hit then yeah you have a glass jaw but if you have been taking punches for awhile and it happened to be just this guy who shook you,
i wouldnt be too worried, hes maybe just more powerful then previous sparring partners.

I don't know, let me test it out.

But seriously, how long have you been boxing? If you've been doing it for years and this was the first time you got rocked, no big deal, but if you just started, then maybe. But I don't know if getting hit in the temple counts as "chin." People with weak "chin" usually get knocked down/out fast because their nerves behind the jaw gets hit more easily or something, Im guessing. Getting hit in the temple has nothing to do with "chin." Next time see what it feels like to get hit in the jaw.

Historically the term "glass jaw" was used with reference to men who have a very low tolerance to concussion. The latter day use of the term by the hoard of keyboard warriors is indiscriminate and essentially meaningless. Everybody can be knocked out, you merely have to hit them in the right way and at the right time. The fact that you were staggered shows nothing more than you are human. The lesson to be learned is that you should endeavor to make yourself hard to hit.

been boxing for 3 years, never taken a flush right hand to the temple before, the guy i was sparring was also 2 weight classes above me.

what annoys me is I always keep my chin tucked in but if a guy can wobble me with shots to the temple (which is always exposed), then im in trouble.

Wut do you mean by low tolerance to concussion? The ability to stay up after getting hit or the ability to not feel anything after getting hit? I can take beating on my head and not go down, but I don't like how it feels afterwards. I get really dizzy sometimes if I take too many shots. Does this mean I have low tolerance?

You should spend more time on proper boxing training and less time getting hit. Any fool can walk in off the street and get his head punched in.

The first time you have taken that kind of punch from a guy hat is bigger than you, nothing to worry about. If you recovered after that punch, your chin is alright.

"Glass Jaw" is used more generally these days. I think it just refers to whether you can take a punch anywhere to the head. I think plenty of people get rocked and still have good chins. If someone hits you with the right punch at the right time, you're going to go down. What's important is that you have the ability and heart to recover and keep going. If you're training correctly, you should. Work on your defense and keep those hands up.
