  • Question about my new boxing gym....

Ok in the upcoming week I will be going to a boxing gym for the first time. I have a few issues with it, so I hope some of you veteran fighters can help me out here....

I'm 20 years old, I work 5 nights a week from 1030 pm til 630 am. I am trying to find out what my gym hours are, so maybe I could shoot right from work in the morning to the gym, or right from the gym to work. Is that a good or bad idea?

Should I buy my equipment now, and if so, what should I get? I have a generic brand headger, and 16 oz. everlast hook and loop training gloves. Or should I wait and get it after I go?

    Thanks alot.

I would normally say go to the gym around 4 in the afternoon. Research on top level Olympic atheletes has shown that performance tends to peak around this time of day. However with you working nights then your 4 pm might be in the morning some time. So In your case I would go to the gym after work - you'll have more energy and find it a little easier.

You'll need to get yourself some good hand wraps (and learn how to put them on copy and paste this link and add the w's ..... youtube.com/watch?v=xUP1povd8hs

You could do with a decent pair of bag gloves - make sure they feel comfortable and supportive - and maybe your own skipping rope.

    Good luck with the training.

Go the gym before work in my opinion. I usually feel energized after a workout even if it was very tough. This is generally because of all the adrenaline. Then you can take a shower and go to work feeling fresh. If you go to workout after work and then go home, you won't be able to sleep and then you will be very tired for your next shift. It depends on what type of person you are. If you're the kind of guy who works out and then all you want to do is take a nap, go after work. But if you're like me and a workout gets you wired, go before work.
