    Basically, I lent my mates hand weights to do shadowboxing with but he needs them back... so I am gonna buy my own weights.

    I want to know how much is the maximum amount of weight I should use to shadowbox with... and around the maximum I should use for doing bicep curls and stuff, the reason I ask is I have heard people say before that lifting too much weight in Boxing isn't good and you need the right amount.

    I am 5'5", and weight around 8 stone 8 lbs... any recommendations?

    All advice appreciated, I have made threads on here before and it is all extremely helpful!

    2-5lbs maximum for shadowboxing
    With the curls it doesnt really matter, curls dont help much with strength for boxing but its exercise, just go heavy as hell.

    I've shadowboxed with weights allot and you wont really need to go over 3lbs imo unless your working on hooks and uppercuts. If your doing it to build endurance in your shoulders that'll be plenty, if you find it too easy then your not punching fast/often enough. If your just going to work uppercuts/hooks though you can go as high as 8lbs for uppercuts and I think 4-5 is plenty for hooks. This is just what I found feels best to me.

    Resistance bands are good too, theres lots of things theyre good for and are allot more versatile than light dumbells it just takes a little more time because youll have to set them up to work things like hooks properly. You could use them to make pushups tougher. You can tie them to other **** and have the band help pull your hand faster than it would normally go which can help with speed as well.

      yeah 2-3 in my opinion is more then enough just for shadowboxing. as far as bicep curls itll help you stap punches faster if you havent noticed when you throw quick snapping jabs a lot. your shoulder and bicep tends to burn when you start feeling the burn. i would probably go with the highest weight you could use to do burnouts. do somewhere along the lines of 50 reps straight burnouts with the most weight you can do and then go down in weight and burnout then keep going down in weight however much you feel. for actual shoulder conditioning i use 10-20lbs depending on my conditioning level at the moment.

          doesnt hurt. in my opinion isolation workouts are a must to get completely ready physically. you use all your muscles when you fight even if it is indirectly so its never a bad thing.

            Thanks, one more question... are wrist weights good to use while shadowboxing as the weights? Cause I just saw some wrist and ankle weights and thought I would consider.

              I don't know about wrist weights, but we use ankle weights. You definitely feel alot faster when you take them off, but I haven't been using them long enough to see if my footspeed has actually increased.

                Yeah, well obviously there gonna make some sort of difference. I just want to know if there a good idea to use for shadowboxing (wrist).

                  The proper use of shadow boxing is the development of the mind/body relationship so that you create proper boxing instincts. However, before shadow boxing becomes most effective you must have learned good fundamentals. If your offense or defense is technically flawed practising it through shadow boxing will only develop improper boxing instincts for which you will be dully punished in the ring.

                  Instead of asking internet theorists about boxing, why not take a trip to Wales and visit Joe Calzaghe's gym. I have little doubt he will agree with what I have told you.

                    I understand this what your saying... but also punching with weights help develop your speed, so I was just wandering if wrist weights were useful is all. You are right though I understand what you mean.
