Are ice cold showers good for your muscles?

I notice that boxers after having sore muscles they go take a bath in ice water of some sort. Now, would this work similar if I took a cold shower? I hate cold showers but if they help my muscles heal then I guess cold showers aren't so bad then.

I've heard of this and tried it a couple times. The thinking goes the cold water flushes the lactic acid out of your muscles. I did the cold shower after a couple works out, it is invigorating I'm not sure how much it helped, but then again I haven't done it consistently enough.

it's like putting ice on a bruise.. stops the swelling and allows better circulation for quicker recovery
