for the fighters i train i go by the weight of the fighter anybody over 160 i make them wear 16, anything below its 14 i do not allow 12s for sparring. my fighters spar alot and bigger gloves cuts down on the injurys. and i personaly use 16-18 depending on who im sparring

What do they use in Cuba? The Ecuadorians seem to follow alot of the Cuban type of training so I thought that why they use 12s here. I was surprised when they told me to buy 12s and I sure felt the punches in the few times I have been able to spar. I also sometimes use them for bagwork as you can see in the following very short vid, feel free to crit

My logic exactly. I found that the most occuring injuries in the gym are usually hand and wrist, so 16s are usually the best bet. Punches are still felt quite well on these though.

i use 16's in sparring but they are small and compact for 16's, not heavy bulky gloves that give you an unrealistic idea of defence

No tooting my horn but I use 18's only in sparring. They build your speed up a lot more

I've sparred a ex world champion and for the longest I didn't know he wore 12oz while I wore 18oz. Wonder why his punches were felt a little more then usual.

That dude was a swarmer. I did left hook him and his head whipped to the side. I was shocked he didn't drop. I did have 18's though. I wasn't used to being attacked. I'm usually the attacker.

That's why I use 16 to build speed and stamina, but **** if he is using 14. I know its not that much but every little bit helps especially when he is a pro and I am not.

So was he shorter than you or some bigger guy with a bully style?
