dont listen to this advice!!! just eat 5 small clean meals throughout the day that adds up to about 2500 cals a day. this way youll still be gettin the right nutrients as not to overtrain while keepin the energy up to train hard, and your metabolism wont shut down from not eating. in other words youll be burning fat as long as your still training hard!!

he didnt mean stop eating completely. most people think if you lift heavy youll bulk up. youll tone up real nice but unless your eating a surplus of protein then you arent going to gain size/bulk/weight. stick to your 5-6 small balanced nutrient rich meals a day and you shouldn't gain size unless your eating a butt load of protein in every meal. based on your height, weight, and such you should be able to calculate your own personal kcal per day needed and i would probably up the carbs with the last meal you eat before you workout so you have a little extra energy for your lifts and such.

How can you say how many calories he should eat without knowing his weight and how much activity he does? (or BMR base rate metabolism)

No, you don´t just need a surplus or butt load of protein, you only need about .8 gm or so of protein per pound of bodyweight to gain muscle. But you also need fat and carbs in your diet.

You won´t gain weight if your overall calories are equal to or less than what burn each day. So you will only gain weight from powerlifting if you eat a surplus of cals, regardless if the calories are from protein, carbs or fats,
