close friend as a sparring partner

    is it a good idea?
we are both at the same level. same weight more or less and he is 6'2 and i am 6'0 but i don't think the height difference should be too much of an impact.

or will we start hating each other haha

    there shouldnt be any problem

im really good mates with my main sparring partner, in fact im mates/friendly with pretty much all the people i spar with, sparring is about getting better, trying new stuff and pushing yourself, so long as you both arent bitches who get all worked up about what happened in sparring you guys should be fine

i go hard in sparring all the time, and ive never had problems with people i spar with, ive gotten on top of people, gotten touched up by others, gotten on top of someone one time and then gotten touched up the next time etc....it's all part of boxing and it's not personal...

well sparring with your close friend is better than sparring with someone you are not close with
cause if he was your close friend and you hurt him he will forgive you
and if he hurt you you will forgive him
so i say it not a good idea
          its a great idea

it really depends on what kind of friend you have. i have a few good friends that i have sparred(gloves and no headgear) with. as long as they know a bit about sparring and fighting arts, it can be a very good thing.

one time i sparred a friend using more of a martial arts format, but we took kicks out of the session, he threw 4 or 5 kicks in about a span of about 10 minutes aimed at my family ***els lol. i guess he wanted to test how good i really was at surprise attacks. luckily for me i managed to block or evade all 4 or 5 kicks. but, anyways, we always gain something out of practice. and have never had any personal problems due to sparring - i tend to go more lightly on them then they go on me as i am more trained and spar more frequently.

i would strongly recommend not sparring anyone with a big ego, too much pride, an anger problem, or little to absolutely no control.

i always thought, if a person cant handle being bested, they have no right to be sparring.

as long as you guys know what your doing then i dont see any problem with it unless either of you has a thing about hitting someone or getting hit. 2 of my friends that ive trained with are best friends and i watched them spar and they dont hold back. i think they would be insulted if either of them held back. you guys should be able to push each other to get better.

sparring people that aren't your friends isnt a bad idea unless they dont know what they are doing, aren't profession or respectul. sometimes they will push you even harder then friends but it always just depends. good luck

                  thanks for the replies.

I am looking to keep down at middleweight where as he is light heavyweight-super middleweight.

i am around 73-4kg where as he his like 76-7kg. will that make much of a difference?
