Oh yeah? Where at and what time? I work on Saturday. I'm not back at the gym yet but my mind is clear of girls. It hasn't been that way in a good while. More focused.

Got to agree to that, at some point that was my favorite punch.

Explain to us why you think it is an exaggerated punch? I, for one, would love to hear the reason.

Anyway, yep, developing a quick, sharp accurate jab is just essential. It can be such an easy weapon to overlook and train bad habits with. I see so many guys that think of it as a simple range finder and have a lazy jab. A lazy jab is worse than no jab. The counter opportunities that a lazy jab gives can easily get you KO'd.

One thing with the jab, I have found a lot of people go for too much power in it. Some don't train it properly at all and then others think of it as some kind of power punch.

A jab should have enough schtick on it that it can bust up an eye over a fight, snap your head back and keep you from being able to walk through it, but most important, it should be quick and accurate. You want to be able to use it with variety. Doubling, tripling it up, doubling it to the body and head and finishing combination's with it to keep from getting countered as you step out or slide off to an angle.

Also, one reason you don't want to use it with great power is that no matter how strong it is, your main hand will have more power so you instead want it to be quick and be able to use it to distract. This is sometimes overlooked. Being able to use your jab purely to distract your opponent is a brilliant tactic and one of the main purposes for it. Shooting it out to keep your opponent thinking while it covers your follow up shot is most effective.

You can also negate so much with a good jab. Your own jab can negate that of someone with a longer, stronger jab. If this is the case you also need to develop great slipping and jab defense. But the jab itself is one way of defending against the jab. Also dropping your own jab over the top of a smaller guys jab can really mess them up......errr, I have gone off on a bit of a jab rant here.

I love the jab. A brilliant jab is most important. You really can get so far with just a great jab. Look at Paulie Malignaggi, he doesn't have anything apart from a good jab, yet he's been a world champion and elite fighter for a long time.
