Well what I was saying if thats what you wanna do then do it. I stopped boxing at 16 before making a comeback at 28. When I was 16 I was enjoying having a car and drinking and started to go out etc, but you can still have a social life and go out when you are training. Even if you just train and donīt fight you will keep yourself in better shape (and pick-up more girls at the nightclubs as well).
I would say 90% of boxers that have some talent give it away early for one reason or another. Many because of alcohol or they like to party too much. Whatever you do I recommend keeping up a fitness routine even if you never box again.

I talk about this with my dad all the time. He had potential in boxing also and and ended up pissing it away for women and alcohol, around the same age I'm at now (17). But now when I talk to him about it he says it's the only regret in his life, that he was good at boxing but now he's too old and he'll never know if he was good enough. He says he wouldn't have cared if he had one pro fight and got knocked the **** out, because then he'd know it wasn't for him. His main problem is that he never gave it a shot at all.

Consequently I guess he's instilled a passion for boxing in me but I know that alcohol and women aren't going to deterr me from my training.

I think in life, you have to do want you want to do. But is drinking and screwing all your life a realistic goal? And do you want to grow to have regrets about your potential? It kind of sounds like you've already made up your mind, but you never know where your head'll be at in a couple of years.

Personally I just try to keep it in moderation. I like to go out for a drink and a bonk every now and then, but (personally) I believe it's important to stay focussed on a long-term goal, even if so loosely.

The point made about your heart not being in it being dangerous is also pretty valid. In the end I think the pressures of others mean nothing, because it is entirely up to you.

      Good luck with your decision...

Don't be pushed into anything you don't wanna do.

Boxing isn't the safest sport as it is, but if your hearts not in it, it's just not worth the risk.

You're not betraying your friend. Your friend went to those gyms on his own and you never asked him to in the first place. Really no point going back if you don't have the heart for it. Chances are you probably wouldn't give it your all if you force yourself back into it. Give it some thought and go from there.

stick with the boxing, if you do have potential and work hard you can go to more interesting places than nightclubs
maybe boxing has got old for him?
P Diddy likes to party and hes got wads of money

Its all your choice, you dont have to do anything you dont want to. If your heart isnt in it and you dont want to well.. you are going to be fighting against guys who are devoting their lives to the sport who will thus be better and thus you will only get so far.

Considering only those at the very top make enough money to support themselves as pros and if you are already pursing a career then I dont think thats a bad thing at all to focus on your career.

That is different than you wanting to do it but just being too lazy to train.

You can devote however much time you want to it, its your choice not your friends.
