    Knee strengthening

Good exercises to help? Or is it one of those things you can never improve and have to live with ( to help walk long distances/walk up/down hills etc)

My cruciate ligament in my knee is pretty f** and pretty much would benefit from a reconstruction but I am careful with it and do exercises to strengthen the stabilising muscles around the knee. A specialist told me that working the hamstrings helps more in stabilising the knee than quad exercises. I do squats 1 or twice a week, with standing hamstring curls, and lunges with weighted barbell. I also ride a bike to the gym (a few hills around here) though the weights are more beneficial than the bike. SO far my knee is holding up well but I dont know if well enough to withstand 6-10 rounds of boxing.
DO a search and there is another thread which mentions some supplements you can take, I can´t remember what they were.

one most known way to strengthen the kneecap and knee track, is to bend and straighten the knee in repititions of say 8 to 10 or so at first. you have to hold your leg out in front of you for this.

as you extend your leg from bent position so that it is straightened, you hold the leg in a straightened position as u count to 3 or 5. after a few days, add a very small weight. my doctor recommends something even as simple as a sock filled with sand placed over your ankle to add resistence.

i have had knee problems since my sports injury many years ago. so this advice comes from what a doctor told me.

basically, if u strengthen the muscles around the knee, u strengthen the knee itself. i could go into more detail, but u get the point.
