  • Hitting the wall... is this true??

I read cuban three times olympic champion Felix Savon used to hit the walls in a way of training to make his knuckles stronger (to hit harder i suppose). Is it true that is that effective or was just a lie from a journalist? Not that i would do it, i just want to know if it's true.

It is true, that is why my knuckles are so powerful that only a fool would want to get hit by them

Hitting the wall will, over time, and with decent punches, strengthen your knuckles. Your body learns that this area is under constant strain and will send calcium deposits in order to protect it. Essentially, it makes the bone denser and thus stronger. The same kind of thing can happen anywhere in your body where it's under strain, for example, those who do a lot of heavy weights for a long period of time have the same effect on whichever body part.

However brilliant and clever this is, it's quite pointless in boxing. This process will naturally take place to whatever extent, if at all, as you train for boxing. If your knuckles need more calcium deposits because of boxing, which is unlikely, your body will send them, when it no longer needs them, it wont anymore. Thing is, with hand wraps and gloves on, if you're knuckles generally hurt to the point that you need to strengthen them you've either got ****ed knuckles or you're doing something wrong.
