I would suggest shadowboxing with small weights in your hands, like 2-7 pounds. It will help your speed. I would also suggest doing medecine ball throws.

medicine ball slams are an abdominal workout. i dont think they would help with speed. boxing with weights is good advice. throw 20 of every punch a few times.

go to your heavy bag. get up real close and throw punches that arent really jabs or straights. just do 1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2-1-2 but hand with your knuckles vertical. keep the bag out a bit from you, but not full extension... the key is keeping the bag at the same distance.
do 20 seconds on 10 seconds off. my friend learned that at national boxing camp, except they did 5 seconds on 25 seconds off, haha. it works the fast twitch muscles... thats the best speed exercise if not pads.
      good luck.

I don't know i think you are born with speed, but surely you are able to improve it in many ways, maybe not to its maximum potential. Because my speed came natural, but my power was always a negative. Yet as i grew older, my shoulders became much more solid and i could throw left hooks more efficiently, but i worked on the heavy bag relentlessly for the results. I guess you can shadowbox with lighter dumbbells. I luckily had these 5LB wristbands that i wore to shadowbox, it helped.

My bad, i posted in a hurry cause i had to go, forgot the link.

              Here:

I have been doing this for about 6 months, both hands and i have noticed a increase in power and speed. I do 3 series of 12 with each hand 2 times a week, i use a 5 pound ball. Great exercise.

Ross Enamait is the man. guys who don't know, you should check out his web site. there's plenty of good info on training there.

relax! that is what i think is biggest secret as people dont really know how to relax. over the years, i have thought i was relaxed and found i could always relax in some way a little more.

when u can relax enough it loosens up your muscles to be able to change into movement faster.
