Hi there i'm training to join the British Royal Marines and just wanted some advice. Do you think intense heavy bag work could give me as good a cardio workout as running. Right now i have shin splints so can't run but still want to get my cardio up to speed. Also what would be the best way to give myself a good cardio workout in boxing. I was told to just continuously punch the bag as this will get my cardio up in the best way.

heavy bag training and running are both very good.
on the heavy bag move around like you are fighting an opponent, thing about your defense, throw combos (1-jab 2- cross) do some intense intervals like throw as many punches as you can in 30 seconds of course with proper technique than slow down but keep throwing punches for about 2 or 3 minutes like a real fight then rest for about a minute with good deep breaths, each round try to work on different things like uppercuts for 1 round , hooks for another make sure in every round you are constantly moving and when you are hitting the bag control, your breathing like breathe out when you hit the bag, put some force behind the punches, do some bobing and weaving, keep your hands up i your stance position and as fast as you throw a punch thats how fast you should bring it back - treat the bag just like an opponent that would hit back and cause you problems - you will realise that it takes a lot out of you and it would be difficult to hit the bag with authority for a long time
