I don't know if boxing has made me a better person, but it has made my life dramatically better.

I suffered from badly anxiety/depression for several years off and on. I'd feel a bit better, but my life was still ****, and I'd eventually fall back into it after a couple months. I started boxing and that gave me something that I loved to do and something to look forward too. Six months later and I'm feeling great.

Life's not perfect by any means, and I've still got a ways to go, but if I've made a lot of progress in life since I started boxing.

I quit smoking to box as well. Over a year ago now. After my first day in the gym and i felt like my lungs shrunk I figured i needed to stop smoking. I dont party at all now really, and hardly drink. Im more serious about boxing now so thats a commitment i was willing to make.

Instead of being arrested for punching people in the face...something I rather like to do, we get cheered, praised, rewarded and applauded for it. That ain't 1/2 a bad deal right there.

And there is a peaceful feeling in knowing you can wipe out most anyone you come into contact with. It also helps being respected.

Ultimately, the touchy feely answers on here...regarding "empowerment" and "being a better person" are true. If you grew up in a tough way or place, it should and often does help your self esteem. And so with respect for self, it is easier to have respect for others.

I used to get into fights all the time in highschool until i got into boxing, i still got into a few fights after that bu nowhere near as much. I was a really aggresive guy it didn't take me much to take a swing at somebody. I was heavy into drugs, mostly a pothead but i did my share of chems too.

I still have a bad temper but i can control myself now. Boxing really did help me to "tame the beast inside".

Now i don't drink, don't smoke and i am pretty calm all around. But of course all that didn't happen within a few days of picking up boxing. Started boxing about 8 years ago and in the first few years i was still into drugs somewhat.

But yeah, overall it made me a better person i beleive.

I think it has helped me alot. Without boxing I would have nowhere to channel all that rage and would probably beat up alot more people for no reason. i think I would abuse drink and drugs alot more too, and may have even become a full time criminal with a record. I have only been arrested a few times for a few fights, and once for forgery when I was younger. Boxing stopped me going down that route because I would have thought differently after getting my final warning if I was not teetotal. Also, boxing defo stopped me from selling weed because I knew if I had access to it everyday I would smoke it!

Boxing has made me confident but in the wrong ways, I'm more punchy than before.
