I was wondering if any of you guys train on supplement such as a pre-workout like BSN NOexplode or post-workout such as cellmass? Ive been using these supplements for weight lifting but never at the boxing gym and was wondering what you guys thought about using them for boxing.

I would deffinently go w/ a natural whey protein it is so much better for you.
here is the video that talks about the crap in regular whey protein. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyeAI3EivJkLast edited by SOY-COMO-SOY; 12-13-2008, 02:15 PM.

I know what you mean about boxers not wanting to take supplements such as to much whey or weight gainer protein. But what im really asking is about pre workouts such as noxplode, navapor, super pump 250,ect and other post workout creatine suplements like cellmass. Basically for energy and recovery before and after training. Intresting video I would like to look more into it.Last edited by CopKline; 12-13-2008, 02:28 PM.

The reason that im concerned about products like no xplode, is becouse of the mental effect it has on you during training. Like ive said before I only use it for weight lifting and it works so good and i feel like a million bucks hitting weight, but when I run out of it i feel dead like i have no energy and I also feel weak and feel in my mind that i cant put up as much weight as I do when I have taken it. Has anyone else experienced this effect when it comes to training.

As for supplements, I take:
Multivitamin (Get one that has no Iron in it, make sure it isn't those one a day centrum MV)
Fishoil (9 capsules per day..split it up between meals)
Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein (I take it after I workout)
I get the rest from real food. This is boxing, not bodybuilding.Last edited by mishka80; 12-14-2008, 06:37 PM.

Hey copkline, the others have given you a few good tips. But I'd like to add a few of my own.
First, NO is a vasodilator, like heat for instance. In other words it expands your veins to let more nutrients into the muscle just in case you didn't know. It doesn't actually change your blood pressure, at least, that's what my sister/doctor says, which is slightly concerning. Nevertheless it does allow for a bigger pump (as u mentioned), the problem with that is that it adds friction and can slow your arm movement down.
Second, I'd be interested in what weight training you are doing, whether your bodybuilding (but weight training outside the bounds of bodybuilding is ok IMHO, just keep your reps low, use full form and hammer the push/pull, keep your return to the original position slow, this is all to maximise fast twitch fibres) or weightlifting, I'll assume you know the difference. The use of bodybuilding as a co-existent to boxing is just a big no-no. But the use of weightlifting is interesting because it's very controversial. You get some great boxers/trainers say it's good, but you get some great boxers/trainers say it's superfluous and even go to the extent to say it is damaging. Personally, I think weightlifting is a great forerunner to boxing and you should continue to weight lift, but be careful of injury and maintain a a healthy ratio of the two, which is having weight lifting come under your broader boxing regime.
If you are going to take NO, take it with whey protein. In the morning on your off days (unless your a little stingy like me and don't want to waste it) and as you know before you train, weightlifting that is- not before your boxing workout.
Also keep taking creatine, religiously. It is a well proven and beneficial supplement, much more than NO, even though you may think NO is more beneficial (because you can fell the effects easier) it's not. But you should be taking it before/after your boxing workouts and on your days off, not your weight lifting ones. Cycle it, and take it with a sugary drink if it isn't combo-ed up with glutamine.
As the other guys said, take multi-vitamins and/or BCAAS, buy them before you buy your next mass marketed NO tub. Fish oil is good (as iterated), but it makes your breath smell like crap, so have some mints or get odorless ones.
IMHO don't do meal replacements, just eat good, solid, healthy meals. Don't skip them and always eat breakfast, also carb load a little. If you can't get to the weight you want with a good diet or metabolism transplant then you aren't training hard enough. O geez, I friggin digress. Catch, hope it helps!
