This is driving me nuts. A few weeks ago I was messing around, shadow boxing and throwing punches (hitting only air) and I think I caused some kind of injury. I have severe pain in the elbow, forearm, and around the right pectoral muscle/underarm, but it kinda crept up on me gradually over a couple of days. No pain was felt at the time of shadow boxing.
Since about a week ago I've been on pain killers/anti-inflammatory pills prescribed by my doc. Today I went back and he doubled the dose, plus gave me some more pills. I'm on Naproxen (500mg) and now Amitriptylene (10mg).
Does this kind of pain sound like it would come from throwing punches? I have had nothing like this before. Maybe I over extended or something, I'm not sure. What I want to know is what I can do to minimize the pain and help it recover faster.
Pain is worse at night and when I wake up in the morning. Resting my arm helps, but the pain comes back quickly as soon as I start using it. It's hard not to use it, even brushing my teeth and pulling on a pair of socks makes it hurt like a *****.
Any advice?
PS: having been a musician (guitarist) for about 28 years made me think it was tendinitis or carpal tunnel syndrome, but my doctor kinda ruled it out. He thinks the pain is coming from my neck, maybe a nerve problem.
