Steak for 100 gms about .65cents - 28 gms protein
4 whole eggs .51 cents 24 gms protein
6 eggs (whites) .80 cents 24 gms protein

so here anyway it is cheaper to buy protein rich food than whey. Whey acts faster sure but I think daily quantity is more important than timing.

I dont know about prices elsewhere in US or Europe for example. Anyone enlighten me?
I got a 5lb tub of whey protein for $38. Here is the link: http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp...entPage=search

That tub has 78 servings in it. So thats almost $0.50 cents a serving. I think the whey protein tub is the cheapest form of protein. Cuz steak can be very expensive. I dont buy eggs, so I dont know how much they cost

get some BCAA...for better muscle recovery
Have you ever used glutamine? BCAA are expensive and arent worth the price tag they are given.

Glutamine is great after intense workouts to prevent muscle catabolism and also helps prevent carb cravings. I've never been sore after workouts since I've started taking it.

Your economics is far different then ours (Canada). For any sort of variety of protein from food, and especially chicken breast which is ridiculously high, it is much cheaper for the whey. Steak is also fairly expensive, and I suppose I could get close enough with the tuna or eggs...but it would still cost more to meet needs. A large container of whey protein here is also only about 30$ w/ tax.

A chicken breast alone can cost about 3-4 dollars.

I could break it down into grams etc. and be specific, but that is far more work then I am interested in doing on the matter lol. You'll just have to trust me.

I have glutamine, why else would I say it's a waste of $$$ if I haven't tried it ahha..it jsut sits in my cupboard. I get 4g of gluatmine from my Whey protein anyways...so why bother.

BCAA does the same thing. But since Glutamine is produced by my body...I think I sorta wasted my $.

But it's all about personal preference..its cheap... has a lot of servings.. so w/e

edit: Yeah, whey has BCAA in it as well.... and you're right about it being expensive.... just made me realize that lol

Yea but what would you rather do cook up a steak every day after working out for a few less cents or just throw together a quick shake?

Glycogen stores are replenished by carbohydrates, not protein, however most protein powders (especially ones titled "mass gainers") now have some carbs in there. Personally I think it is a waste of money to buy those, you can buy some milo/nesquik if you really despise the taste to add some carbs or eat some bread/cereal/potatoes, etc. are all good at replenishing the glycogen stores.

The difference is it can take up to 5 days to replenish your glutamine stores after an intense workout, without supplementation. You don't need a lot of BCAA's, unlike glutamine. But hey if it works for you that's great, but personally I'd try glutamine first and formost.

Well the whey I buy has carbs in it (and it isn't a weightgainer..just a regular isolate protein). Anyways, like I said, after a workout.. I find it's more convenient.
