I'm not going to sit here and say what you should or shouldn't do, what I do and don't do, do what you want, I wont condone or reject things simply because I don't actually care about you or with the exception of a few anyone else. But....

This is where all of the ****weeds will come out of the woodwork and post "DON'T TOUCH ANY OF THAT!", probably the guys who follow the rule do as I say, not as I do cus it's miiiiiiiiighty easy to be righteous when it's not affecting you.

Smoking weed will effect your lungs, remember that for every 1 spliff it's the same as 3 or 4 cigarettes simply because a joint is seldom filtered. Now to be honest, I don't know how often you smoke but any more than once a day is just as good as being a smoker, if it's once or twice a week then it is down to how much you do. If you share a joint with a few friends on a friday night it wont ruin your training, I don't believe it will do much damage.

Mushrooms, I don't know anything about, as far as I know their effect is only psychological but I say only meaning singular, not as in it's not important, I reckon mushrooms could **** you up. So them might not make you unfit but might make you a littttttle crazy which could damage your training routines.

Drinking is considered unhealthy, it's calorie count isn't actually as high as everybody makes out, even Guiness isn't that heavy but again it's the same as eating pie and chips, don't bother doing it too often.

Personally I think you're more than capable of running a complete boxing work out with a ***** up your ass if that's what you want to do and you commit yourself but the reality of it is it's going to make it a little harder. You have the weigh the cost vs. benefits of a party life style vs. moderate partying.

P.S the people who talk about never touching alcahol etc. are probably under 18s and/or people who wank off to boxers rather than go to an actual gym and/or people who slap a bag around at their house and think they're cool and/or liars.

I see **** on this forum that is just laughable, some guy once posted he did 400 sit ups a day and was wondering when he'd reap the benefits of a six pack, people replied so what i do a 1000! and people saying they do 500 push ups a day and go running 6 miles and all this ****, I don't buy a second of it for ages i've wanted to write a post telling people to shut up because they're clearly liars possibly with the odd exception. I love it though, you can spot them pretty easily because they can't quite decypher the difference between pro' and amatuer and they talk about stuff like being a cruiserweight....now I might be wrong but i'm pretty damn sure there is no cruiserweight in amatuer boxing! It goes (skipping the first few), Middle - Light Heavy - Heavy - Super Heavy...Ah well.

While I agree with you that it should ultimately be up to the person to choose whether to do those things, if he/she is going to ask opinions of others on a forum, there will always be people that will say "stay away from it". So what if you're under 18? You're making it seem as if though you HAVE to touch alcohol to go to an actual boxing gym, and to be considered a real boxer. If you ask me, that's just plain ******.

Obviously you can be a serious and competitive boxer, and still party moderately, but the truth is is that no alcohol, and no drugs, is still better than any, albeit just a little. I know this, and that's why I try to give same advice to people contemplating abusing these things on these forums. To be perfectly honest, your reply makes it seem as if though you're pissed at people preaching this kind of advice simply because YOU cannot give up alcohol and drugs. Don't know if this is true, but this is what it seems like.

There are some people on this forum that do do 500 pushups a day, and do run 6 miles. Personally, I don't see any harm in that as long as they do their boxing training, and work on their technique. I know that aside from being in the boxing gym for 2-3 hours a day, I do about 400-500 pushups, 100 pullups, and other strength training exercises.

Just seems like you're pissed at others for doing something you don't.

Sukenkoy, you said what I wanted to say. I agree that some people talk **** on here, and I see them too, but the things that were pointed out as being unrealistic seem quite reasonable to me.

Everyone wants different things from boxing. I train with kids who just muck around and also pro fighters. Everyone does it for a different reason and their training will vary accordingly.

and don't ever look in a mirror when you're on shrooms. ever.

sidenote to the above question: not nearly but it was being flipped up a hill.

Seems to me that you're inability to see what i was writing and the concept behind it shows you to be 'just plain ******'. And for your knowledge, I barely touch alochol and I don't do drugs, my life at the moment consists of work and training, I get home from work and I train at the gym or I do solo training in my garage or run on the road. I train hard and i'm getting better and i'm getting good, I do much more exercise on most days than most normal people do in a week and yet I sign on this forum and I see the most ****** posts because everyone is just amazing, everyone does 6 mile runs everyday, everyone does a shed load of press ups, everyone does everything perfectly and it's like, erm, nobody ever seems to have a job or school because they can train from the morning right through 'til night. It makes my training regime look pathetically lazy and I do quite abit of training, now I believe some people may do what they say but the sheer number of people who claim it, nah, nah way. Now I don't doubt some people do actually do 500 press ups and do actually run long runs in the mornings, I don't doubt that which is why I actually said "with some exceptions" but these people are probably minimal and yet it seems shed loads of people do on this forum, it's hilarious to see.

I'm happy to put my hands up and say I don't get up at 5am and do a 6 mile run and then have breakfast and then do 200 sit ups, 100 push ups, and then somehow do more push ups/sit ups at 10am and then more in the afternoon and then go training. My training routines other than the hours spent at the gym consist of either running on the road, skipping, bag work, floor to ceiling ball and then push ups, crunches, squats and a few other things similar and i'm intending to slowly work in some weights into that. Now i'm happy with that, I feel that i'm doing quite well so i'm not angry at anybody who does more than me but I am annoyed with righteous people who seem to be amazing and then preach against this guy in such a negative manner. I don't know what, as individuals, you do but I refuse to believe that as many people who claim to do what they do, actually do it.

I saw one a forum once, don't think it was this one, a topic about ectomorphs, mesomorphs and endomorphs and which one you were and for about 3-4 pages each people replied "mesomorph" and the odd few replied "mesomorph with a little leaning towards ecto" or likewise with endo but for pages upon pages each person was a mesomoprh, the strong square masculine body which builds muscle easily and one of the last posts was some guy who noticed this and wrote "i'm an ectomoprh but because it's the internet i'm a mesomorph with a 12 inch ****" and that simple comment made me laugh to myself for ages because it's so true, EVERYONE is brilliant EVERYONE doesn't do anything wrong and EVERYONE is straight to jump on to people's backs when they do. It's hilarious. Now, I genuinely believe that I can sit back and say that I reckon i'm one of the, say 10% or so, who don't drink very often at all, eat reasonably well, do quite abit of training and reads up on boxing and yet when people post these threads I never feel the need to actually tell everyone (present comment excluded haha) because who cares what they do! Rather than tell them how amazing you are, do what I do and tell them what it is the stuff does in a neutral way.

Edit: Just remembered a situation on this forum once that made me laugh, it was a thread about a healthy diet and page and page, person after person everyone wrote up some amazing diet and this one guy who looks like a real ****ing boxer, he's the one who posts videos, name is something like Da1 something, but he looks like he could physically fit in with the pros and intimidate them and he wrote something like "you lot each like this everyday? I only do it coming up to a fight" or something to that meaning and that just goes to show it doesn't it? This guy who is quite clearly at awesome condition is supposedly outdone by all of these people who have amazing diets and so forth, no doubt some do but I refuse to believe that as many people who say they do what they do, actually do it.

and funny auras and waves emanating from you, and you see you body change and morph depending on whats going on in your subconscious!

but seriously, drinking, smoking and drugs from about 17 for me were the begining of the end of a potentially decent boxing career (I started boxing at 12). I know others with much better potential who were great amateur boxers who represented their country also throw away opportunity because of alcohol and/or drugs.
I cant preach though but I dont even drink now let alone smoke or do drugs, and boxing has helped me get my life back on track.
SO in answer to the question, drinking, shrooms and partying affect a boxer very badly in my opinion

I forgot to add if you feel your mind is blowing up then drugs and alcohol WILL make it worse, you should talk to your doctor and see if you can be referred to a pysch or counsellor or get your doc to prescribe some some meds if you are seriously depressed or f.d up.
